Laser Surgery in Vancouver by Dr. Ritchie Younger
Smooth texture and even skin tone are hallmarks of youthful skin. During our lifetime we are exposed to a host of factors like the sun, stress, hormones, pregnancy, injury and age. These erode the youthful properties our skin once had. The good news is you can do a lot to minimize the harmful effects of time with non-invasive, non-surgical laser treatment.
With today’s advanced laser resurfacing technology, your skin can see multiple rejuvenating benefits ranging from the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles to an improvement in tone, texture and sun damage — leaving your skin revitalized and refreshed (literally).
The laser is a device that produces a highly focused beam of light energy at one specific wavelength. Laser beams are generated by stimulating the molecules in a special gas-filled tube by electric current or radio waves. This produces a beam of light that is then amplified with mirrors placed in the tube. The result is an intense beam of light that can vaporize the surface of the skin, allowing healthy new skin to emerge.
Lasers were first used in facial plastic surgery in the mid-1970s to treat facial blemishes — like strawberry marks and port wine stains — that previously could not be treated. Since then, lasers have become increasingly important in many aspects of facial plastic surgery. It has basically revolutionized the treatment of sun-damaged skin, and interest in laser surgery is growing because of its convenience, versatility and consistently good results.
What can laser treatments do for me?
The list of skin problems that lasers can address is endless. From sun damage to fine lines and wrinkles; to warts and acne scars to superficial birthmarks and surgical scars; to the treatment of certain precancerous skin lesions — this versatile non-invasive, non-surgical treatment is a gift to our skin.
How long will results last from laser therapy?
Unlike fillers and BOTOX which only have temporary results, the benefits from Laser treatment can last many years, provided you practice safe sun protection, eat a balanced diet and minimize alcohol and smoking.

What is the healing time from laser treatment?
The healing time depends on your specific treatment and skin sensitivity level. You may experience minor swelling and the treated area is usually red for 2 to 4 days. If you require more than one session, the laser settings may change and the resulting healing periods for your first and last treatments may vary.
