While the facelift is the gold standard for all rejuvenating procedures for people in their 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s, in younger people, non-surgical, non-interventional treatments like the use of filler products and BOTOX® can improve things markedly.

BOTOX is undoubtedly the most widely known non-surgical anti-aging facial cosmetic treatment in the world. Since 2002, over 10.9 million vials of BOTOX Cosmetic have been sold in the US alone.

Results with BOTOX can vary however. How the treatment is delivered and the skill and knowledge of the person administering the treatment can make a substantial impact on the results.

What is BOTOX?

BOTOX is the trade name of Botulinum Toxin Type A, a purified toxin produced by bacterium Clostridium botulism. In large amounts, this toxin blocks the nerve impulses to the muscles, causing a form of paralysis call botulism. By using extremely small doses of BOTOX, injected directly into a specific muscle, the muscle will be paralyzed. Therefore, the problem that muscles cause, like a twitch, spasm, or frown line will be stopped.

Where do you put BOTOX?

The frown lines between the eyebrows are caused by the action of a muscle called the corrugator. Injecting BOTOX directly into this corrugator muscle stops your ability to draw your eyebrows together when you frown. Once the muscle is paralyzed, it cannot contract, and the frown line gradually fades away. BOTOX is also effective in treating crows feet, forehead and neck folds.

How long will BOTOX last?

The actual treatment takes only a few minutes and the BOTOX takes effect in three to five days. Gradually over three to five months, the BOTOX effects will fade, and the muscle action will return. When the frown lines start to reappear, a simple repeat treatment is all that is necessary to maintain the desired result.

Who can perform BOTOX treatment?

Only a physician trained in the use of BOTOX should do this therapy. At our Vancouver facial clinic, only Dr. Younger performs the BOTOX procedures. Dr. Younger works with each patient to create a customized treatment plan that is specific to their facial structure and desired goals. This, along with his expert knowledge of facial anatomy and aesthetic balance allows Dr. Younger to optimize the results. At Younger Facial Surgery Centre, our patients benefit from having a highly-skilled facial surgeon and BOTOX expert perform their treatment.

What Are The Side Effects?

The side effects of BOTOX are related to the local injection of the solution. There will be a slight discomfort from the needle entering the skin, and a small chance bruising at the injection site. There have been no permanent side effects from the use of BOTOX.
